The
mouth is the start of the digestive process. The teeth
cut up the food, and grind it to a smaller size. The
salivary glands inside the mouth produce a large amount
of saliva. This moistens the food, making it much easier
to swallow. Saliva contains enzymes which start to chemically
break down starches, resulting in the production of
sugar. |
